Located in the north-western part of the Central Anatolia Region, the Porsuk Brook, which is in the middle of the city, is a student city due to the presence of Osmangazi University and Anadolu University. According to the 2013 ABPRS data, the total population of the province is 799,724. The surface area is 13.902 km², the altitude is 792 m, and the continental climate is dominant in most of Eskisehir.
 

The topographical structure of Eskişehir province in the northwest corner of Central Anatolia is formed by the plains of Sakarya and Porsuk basins and the surrounding mountains. Approximately 22% of the mountains are formed by the fact that the share of the plains in the earth forms is about 26%. The basin plains surround the Bozdağ-Sündiken mountain ranges from the north and the Turkmen Mountain, Yazilikaya Plateau and Emirdağ, which are located on the eastern edge of the inner western Anatolian margins from the west and south. Sarısu, Porsuk and Upper Sakarya plains are the most important plains. Porsuk Creek in Eskişehir and Porsuk Dam on it, Gökçekaya and Yenice Dams on Sakarya River are important water resources of the city.

The name of Eskişehir passes as Dorylion in historical sources. Eskisehir was a Phrygian city, which was famous as a commercial center at the crossroads of important roads in ancient times. Archaeological surveys reveal that Eskişehir is a center with settlements since antiquity. Throughout history, Phrygia, Lydia, Rome and Byzantine dominated the city from the 11th century to the Seljuk Empire was conquered and entered the Turkish sovereignty. Eskişehir, a medium-sized Anatolian city during the Ottoman centuries, began to grow after the great migrations that followed the 1877-78 Ottoman-Russian War and the opening of the Anatolian railway, which was built during the same period. Due to its geographical location, Eskişehir has played an important role in the National Struggle. Eskişehir has increased its social and cultural development as much as its economic growth and development with the significant public investments made during the Republican era, and it has become an exemplary Republican city.

Eskisehir, which is one of the highest quality cities and life quality, forms an example for other Anatolian cities with modern and regular urbanization. Eskisehir, with an urbanization rate of 89.7% in 2011, is one of the leading cities in terms of urbanization. With its social and cultural infrastructure, Eskisehir also has a structure that separates it from other Anatolian cities. As of 2010, there are 35 cinema halls, municipal city opera and theatrical and university theaters throughout the city. International Eskişehir Festival and International Cinema Days are organized every year in Eskişehir where classical music, theater, jazz and other artistic events take place.
 

The ancient Phrygian remains, the Yazılıkaya monuments and other archaeological monuments, as well as the Seljuk and Ottoman monuments and museums, have a rich historical and cultural accumulation. It also has an important tourism potential with natural spas, caves and promenade places. Eskisehir province, full of cultural riches, was accepted as the Cultural Capital of the Turkish World in 2013 with the law numbered 6303 dated 03.05.2012.
